The Moon Even God Can't Stop [Ch 5]
Chapter 5 (¯`•:. Now That I’m Not Alone
«¤’´___I used to cry against a wall, but now I’ve got a shoulder that I can lean on___`¤.
I turned to face the owner of the voice and it was none other than Nicholas Tse, my arrogant, stuck-up classmate. “Dude- I said I was sorry already so get your hands off!”, I demanded harshly. I just wanted to find Charlene – nothing else mattered.
He glanced straight into my eyes and I stared back at him. Then he released his grip. “Pretend to be a tough guy, bimbo~ ?”, he mocked with a cocky smirk displayed on his face.
“Whatever”, I rolled my eyes and walked off, ignoring his silly remark.
Suddenly I noticed a figure on the dance floor, moving swiftly to the loud music. As I recognized the person as Charlene I sighed in relief. I was about to walk towards her, but then I noticed that some people came to join her. To make new friends is rather common for people like Charlene. But then I recognized the group of youngsters.. they were my arrogant classmates, Nic, Joey, Shawn and Bobo along with some other students. I could see that they started to chat with Charlene. After hesitation I finally decided to join them.
“Here you are, I’ve been looking for you everywhere”, I said to Charlene as I approached them. From the corner of my eyes I could tell that Nic and his group of friends were quite surprised.. probably because they wouldn’t have expected that someone like me got to be friends with a person like Charlene.
“Edison!!”, Charlene called enthusiastically. “Come on, let’s dance”, she shrieked excitedly. She hugged me and started to sway to the rhythm. I laughed, glancing down at her and pushed her gently aside. “You know I can’t. I have to work”, I said in a low voice, caressing her cheek with my hand.
“Aww. Not even one dance?”, Charlene looked up at me with her puppy eyes.
My classmates who witnessed the whole scene looked at us with widened eyes. I think the people who watched us must have mistaken us as couple. All of a sudden the music stopped playing and some lights were switched on, lightening the empty stage. Some people were complaining about the sudden stop of the music and we all looked up to the stage.
A middle aged man in tux stepped on the stage. “Good evening, Ladies and Gentlemen. Tonight there’s karaoke”, he announced enthusiastically into the microphone, trying to entertain the crowd. The whole audience cheered. “Okay, who wants to take the first step?”, he asked and a young woman volonteered. Finally she began to sing but it was nothing special. I looked down at Charlene and she watched the whole show in excitement. I couldn’t help but to smile at her expression. I noticed that my classmates were still standing close to us. Weird – it kinda seemed like Charlene and me were part of their group.
“Okay, who wants to be the next one?”, the host asked the crowd.
“I want!”, some people were calling.
“ME!”, Charlene shouted which gave me a shock. I looked at her big-eyed, was she being serious??!
The host looked around the crowd. He thought for a while and finally pointed at Charlene. “The young lady over there – come up”, he told her.
Charlene gave me a nervous grin before she stepped on the stage. I really admired her courage! The host handed her the microphone and the music started playing. She seemed very calm, not nervous anymore. Now it was her turn.. she opened the mouth and out came a soft and angelic voice.

“My darling, there’s nothing left to fear,
Don’t you know that I’m here because of you?
I look into those orbs, pure eyes like yours
And I won’t hesitate.
Don’t you know, heaven ain’t hard to find.
I’m not gonna let you suffer again – no more pain.
Because I’m the one who loves you.
My dear, who’s gonna stop the rain?
Call me – cause I hesitate on the grade crossing.
This is surely a great love-song
For my one and only.”
As she finished the song the whole crowd was cheering, including my class-mates. It was amazing! I was enjoying every single word that came out of her mouth. Somehow I felt related to her song... as if it was a message directed to me. And her voice, it sounded so familiar but I couldn’t remember it clearly.
We were all stunned and taken aback by Charlene’s performance. She smiled brightly, showing everyone her white teeth and shen she came back to me.
“You were –“, I was about to praise her but was interrupted.
“You were totally great there”, Joey praised.
“You have such a nice voice”, Shawn added.
I checked my watch and it was already midnight. “Charlene, we got to go now”, I informed her impatiently. I kinda felt uncomfortable around my class-mates.
“Wait”, Shawn called and we stopped in our tracks. “Aren’t you from Evanston High School?”, he asked, glancing at me. After mocking and annoying me all these shile they still didn’t know me? O_o
“So, what’s your name?”, Joey asked me. Err, what? O_o
‘Why are they suddenly so... friendly to me?’, I thought silently to myself.
“Edison Chen”, I told them.
“Hey Ed, sorry man about.. you know, the incident before”, Nic apologized to me O_o ?
“Erm.. it’s.. ok.. I guess”, I replied in a total shock.
“Well, we got to go now”, I said.
“Ok, see you around, Ed! Bye Char”, they called in unison.
“Bye”, Charlene and I replied and walked off. OH, MAMA! What a weird night! O_o
[ . . . ]
“I can’t believe he apologized to me”, I said still in a shock. Charlene giggled at my expression. We both sat outside on my balcony, covered with a blanket while eating ice cream.
“Look at the stars, they look so fascinating. I wish I could just grab one....”, I mumble as I raised one hand, trying to reach the sky.
“You can’t just grab one star and move it away. If every human was able to do that, there wouldn’t be any stars shining above us anymore and who would lighten the dark night then? Stars are meant to be unreachable. Therefor they will always be there to watch over us”, Charlene explained like a teacher. I glanced beside me to her and chuckled slightly at her cute statement.
